Silas married Olive SWEETLAND of the town of Paris, N.Y. about 1796.
Her
home is said to have been at Sangerfield. She had a sister then
living at
the age of eighty-nine. Olive was the daughter of Eunice Root and Mr.
Sweetlands.
Children of Silas and Olive Bailey:
Silas born 4 Oct 1797, in the town of Paris, Oneida, New York, married
Sarah Ann Clifford about 1822. He died 23 Jun 1891 in Vienna and is
buried at Vienna, Oneida, N.Y. She was perhaps a Massachusetts
girl.
Their children were:
* Jay Christopher, born 23 Dec 1823 in log house in Ohio, married
first
Gertrude C. Gleason 3 Aug 1847. She died 19 Feb 1852. He married
second Eunice E. Conger 20 Mar 1853. He died 17 Oct 1893.
Jay's children by his first wife Gertrude:
Frank Jerome born 2 May 1848 married Belle Williams.
Frank resides in Buffalo, N.Y. He has two children:
Jay, born 1873, is an engineer in New York city.
Jennie G., died in youth.
Dwight Jason born Sep 1850 married Gertrude Leclear born 1854.
After her death he married second Jerusha Winn.
Dwight J. Bailey resides near Bernards Bay, N.Y. He has two
children:
Bertha, died in infancy.
Emma born 1873, married Sidney Bly. They live at Clinton, N.Y.
By his second wife, Eunice:
Gertrude E. born 6 May 1855, married 27 Aug 1873 Walton W.
Rogers born 23 Feb 1849, died 18 Mar 1887 at Eldorado, Kansas.
He left her widowed with five children. She moved back to
Oneida county, where she lived for five more years. Then she
married second 17 Jul 1892 Lester McClanathan born 21 Sep
1857. Two more children were added to the family by this
second marriage (5 girls by first marriage and a daughter and
son from second marriage): Nettie R. 1875, Emma L. 1879, Myra
E. 1882, May O. 1884, Walta G. 1887, and second Myrtle L. 1893,
and William Jay 1896.
Myra Irene born 21 Jan 1857, married George W. Peckham 21 Jan
1877. He died 21 Sep 1902. They resided at Taberg, Oneida
County. Two chidlren were born to them:
Fred W. Peckham of Taberg and Gertrude N. now living at
Syracuse, N.Y. (1904).
Edmund Silas born 7 Jul 1867, married 1892 Mabel L. Baird born
1874. Edmund lives on the old farm at Vienna. He has three
children:
Myron Dorwood, born 6 Apr 1895.
Howard Edmund born 15 Jun 1896
Clifton Silas born 12 Oct 1901.
* Dorleski B. born 17 Sep 1825 in Ohio, married Walter Snits of
Higginsville, Oneida county, 4 Aug 1847. He was born 25 Apr 1816,
died
7 Aug 1884. To them were born twelve children six of whom are living:
Agness, 31 May 1848; Mary, Sep 1849; Louisa, Jul 1853;
Jerome, Jun 1875; Charles, Oct 1859; Charlotte, Apr 1862.
Dorleski was living at McConnellsville, N.Y. in 1904. She was the
oldest living member of her father's branch of the family.
* Jerome died in infancy.
* Charlotte married John Shaver when she was sixteen. She died in
1859,
a few weeks after her nineteenth birthday, leaving one son, Charles W.
Shaver, who is a physician living in the village of Camden, N.Y.
* Byron J. born 7 Jan 1834, married Adelaide Covell and they lived for
some years at Vienna. Later they moved to Schenectady, N.Y. Seven
children were born to them: Edna, Guilford D., Myron L., George S.,
Charlotte, Charles, Wyman.
Eunice married Harry Hayes.
Olive, born 1801, married Joel Brooks. He died about 1875.
Almyra married Orestus Beach
Timothy born 23 Aug 1799 married Sarah Brown, died 29 May 1885.
She was born 16 Mar 1809, died 24 Oct 1881. They had two children:
Olive Jane, married Charles H. Cramer.
Their children were: Ida Louise (Merrill) of Copenhagen, Oneida
County; Dr. William H. Cramer of same place; Lucinda (Atwater) of So.
Rutland; Charles W. Cramer now living on the old homestead; Lotta
(Jones) of Calistoga, Cal., Dr. Lansing J. Cramer of Castorland, N.Y.;
and
Nellie Ruth, a teacher at College Point, Long Island.
Louisa, married a Mr. Dickinson. She died about 1853 leaving
one son, Byron Dickinson now living in Castorland, Lewis County.
Lyman born 29 Sep 1813 probably at Greenbush, Rensselaer County,
married Susan Bull 24 Jan 1837, died 15 Jan 1877 at Watertown,
Jefferson County, N.Y. She was born 23 Dec 1843, died 9 Jun 1903.
Four children were born to them as follows:
Nancy Louisa born 11 Dec 1837, not married.
Mary Ophelia, born 16 apr 1839, married Orvil Tolman. They had
three children: Mary L (now Mrs. Simmons), Susie L. (now Mrs.
Spink), and Hattie who died in childhood.
Lyman Dwight born 12 Jul 1847, married Hattie Waite of Watertown.
He died 27 Oct 1902 at Watertown. They had three children:
Irene L. born 14 Sep 1879
Ione C. born 22 Jun 1885
J. Hart born 1 May 1891.
Susan Isadore born 18 Nov 1851, married Mills Rexford. They had
two children: Mary Barrett 1880 and Philo 1886.
Edmund married Nancy Turner. Edmund was born at Sand Lake, Rensselaer
County, 29 May 1808. He died 1 Mar 1898. Nancy was the daughter of
Jonathan Turner and Rachel Chapman. Nancy died 23 Aug 1898. They had
six children:
Louisa, married Justus Hunt. In a letter from Mr. Irving P. Allen,
dated 12 Feb 1904, is the following: "Louisa Bailey Hunt is
dead leaving two daughters, Nancy aged 36 married C. M.
Dyamond; Emma aged 32 married J. L. Eddy.
Mary, married Thomas Greenman. Mary Bailey Greenman has four
daughters and two sons: Nellie, 38, married Oscar Manchester;
Effie, 3, married Calvin Dunham; Jennie, 33 dead; Edmund 30,
married Lottie Waterbury; May, 26, married Floyd Chittenden;
Thomas, 22, at home with mother.
Silas J. Silas lived at Nassau, Rensselaer County and had two sons:
Irving born 1881; Grover born 1888.
Emily S., married Irving P. Allen. Mr. Allen owns the old homestead
at East Nassau. His wife Emily died 4 Mar 1903, leaving three
daughters: Inez, 18, Marie, 15, and Rachel, 8.
Lydia A. married John A. Jones. He died 1892. After his death she
married C. A. Witts, pastor of the Baptist church at East Nassau.
Rachel, died in infancy.
Abraham married first Thankful Edie, and second Amy Hicks. Abraham
lived and died at Stephentown, N.Y. He left no sons but may have had
some daughters. No further record has come to hand.
Orra married Mary Strait. He also lived and died in Stephentown. He
had
two sons and possibly some daughters, but no record has been
presented.
He died many years ago.
