- BAILEY FAMILY HISTORY by Sage.
Susan DeHart
The birth date may have been 9 MAR 1740. The death date may have been
7 SEP 1827.
Sent off to the National Archives for records on Samuel Bailey for
service in both the French and Indian War 1755-1762 and for service in
the Revolutionary War. 6/10/93
National Archives returned search forms saying they did not have
information prior to Revolutionary War. Susan DeHart has sent to
Connecticut archives for information. 9/18/93
Susan DeHart sent pictures of Samuel BAILEY, Jr.'s grave with a
possible
broken stone belonging to Ruth CLARK. See BAILEY file.
Samuel, Jr.'s baptism, endowment, sealing to parents and sealing to
spouse were done under batch F505202 AZ.
Original information came from records of John Calvin David, Sr.
In DAR application of Blanch Gee Peach Samuel Bailey's birthplace was
"near Stephentown, NY", 19 Mar 1740; death Whitestown, NY, 9 Sep 1827.
Place of residence during Revolution was Stephentown, NY." It also
listed the following: "Samuel Bailey is the ancestor who assisted in
establishing American Independence, while acting in the capacity of
Ensign." "My ancestor's services in assisting in the establishment of
American Independence during the War of the Revolution were as
follows:
Lieutenant of Albany Co., N.Y. Militia, 17th Regiment. Enlisted in
the 6th
Company of the"King's District," Albany Co., Militia under Capt.
Elijah
Hudson. Was in the 17th Regiment under Coln. William Bradford
Whiting.
He was made "Ensign of his company in 1778. A year later on March 7th
he was commissioned Lieutenant of the 17th Regiment which rendered

On this same application it listed other children not previously
listed:
Hannah & Joel. Eunice rather than Emma was also listed. There was
no
listing for Emma. This was probably due to transcription error on the
name.
Gertrude Sage GIBSON applied under #110979 and gave the following
information on Samuel's service and source of references:

Susan DeHart also made this note one 18 Sep 1993 correspondence:
"Reason Samuel Bailey, II, his son Timothy, etc. excommunicated from
Whitesboro Baptist Church was because they didn't attend after
joining,
so much for brotherly love in that part of the world in those days;
church
sounded stuffy from minutes library copied."
Susan further notes: "the library at South New Berlin, NY sent me the
papers about Chloe Bailey, etc.; also information about coffins
Baileys
bought to use for their relatives; perhaps more coming from them when
Sage articles copied by local historian; have land deeds and wills
also
which I need to read more carefully."
South New Berlin News article on Bailey Family History: "Samuel
Bailey
was a medium tall, muscular man but rather spare. His features were
sharp and clear cut. He was a farmer and cleared the land on which
his
later years were spent." ....."It is recorded in Sylvester's History
of
Rensselaer County, page 494, thta Samuel was pathmaster for a cection
of the town that year."
