  Son of Anthony Colvin and Luranse Scott. Husband of: 1) Anna Conger, whom he married Sept. 25, 1855 in Danby, Rutland, VT, and with whom he had three children - Ida M, Sophronia Adalaide, and Perry C Colvin; and 2) Sarah Maria Stafford, whom he married Oct. 5, 1864 in Wallingford, Rutland, VT, and with whom he had three children - Alonzo Holden, John Stukeley, and Calista Jane aka Katherine Colvin. In 1849, he went on a whaling voyage of five years duration. Being a strong, stalwart and courageous man, he was well fitted for the privations and hazards of a life on the oceans, and by noble conduct, he gained the reputation of a good sailor. He served as Captain of Co., K 14th Regiment, VT Volunteers, and after 5 1/2 months service, was discharged on account of ill health. He was a brave officer, cool, fearless and self possessed, and greatly beloved by his men. Captain Colvin always shared in the dangers and hardships, to which his Co. was exposed, and would never accept better fare than they had, which greatly endeared him to them.
