  Mary Ann married "Ran'l" McCoy's uncle, the brother of Ran'l's father, 2 years before Ran'l was born. Ran'l was the leader of the McCoy clan during the Hatfield & McCoy feud. Another brother of Mary Ann's husband was the father-in-law of Cumpton Stafford, Mary Ann's brother. A sister of Mary Ann's husband was the mother-in-law of both Nancy and Louvinia Stafford, Mary Ann's sisters who married Daniel and James Thomas Scott. - - - - - - - - Marriage Bonds of Pike Co KY 1822-1865, Clyde Runyon, Copyright 1984, File # 51: License issued November 15, 1823 by Spencer Adkins CPCC for marriage of "Ranalph" McCoy and "Mary An" Stafford. Clerk certified that Randolph McCoy and "Maryan" Stafford produced the necessary certificate from the father of the said Maryan Stafford, authorizing the license to be issued. Letter of consent for "Randolph McCoy to obtain a Lisence to Marry unto Anna Stafford, who is our daughter", dated November 13, 1823 and signed by John Stafford and Nancy Stafford (by marks) and attested by John McCoy and Richard Keesee.
