- Abram's middle name was either Halbert or Harrison.
Abram enlisted 9 Aug 1862 in Company E of the 105 OVI but transferred to the 103 OVI Co. E and served under Col. John S. Casement. Campaigned in Covington KY, Knoxville TN (The Seige), Alanta GA, Nashville TN, Franklin TN. The left wing of his regiment was taken for a guard at headquarters, and he was sent to Washington DC with General Schofield. He was then sent to Fort Fisher, NC and later he was with his division when they captured Fort Anderson. He was at Wilmington NC and at New Berne and Raleigh. Sgt. Stafford was Honorably discharged 12 June 1865, at Raleigh, NC. he was never confined to the hospital excepting a single day. He returned to farming 260 acres. As his means increased, he invested in stock in the Citizens Bank of Chardon and later became a Director on its Board.
Politically, he supported the Republican Party. He served as Justice of the Peace for several terms and belonged to the Masonic Order and was a worthy member of the Grand Army of the Republic.

Abram Stafford, one of the founders of Chardon Savings bank, died Friday, July 6, at the home of his son, Fred L. Stafford, on East King street. A man of unusual business acumen, Mr. Stafford was for years a valued director of the bank which he helped to organize. Practically all of Mr. Stafford's life was spent on the farm on which he was born, near a Chardon Center. For three years he served in the Civil war with the 103rd O. V. I.
Five years ago Mr. and Mrs. Stafford left the farm to live with their children. After over 60 years of happy married life, Mrs. Stafford, formerly Miss Mary Churchill, died on Jan 24, 1926. The following year the oldest son, Rebuen M. Stafford, passed away. Two daughters, Mrs. George Murray of Painesville and Mrs. Wallace W. Sweeny of Chicago, and the son Fred survive. Also 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. The funeral service was held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Christian church, Rev. C. K. Higley officiating. Burial was in the mausoleum in the village cemetery.
