- GBFA pp.13-14: His will, dated Sept. 19, 1706 and recorded in Newport,
R.I. Dec. 2, 1706, names his wife Sarah as Executrix; children Benjamin,
Jonathan, Jacob and Sarah; witnessed by Israel Barney, his brother.
As a child, Jonathan Barney came to Rehoboth with his father's family, and
was later a proprietor of Swansea, where he sold land in 1699 and a farm
in 1702 for Lb.80. he was admitted a Freeman of Newport in may 1704; was
a Deputy there in Oct. 1704. Nantucket Manuscript records preserve a
memorandum written by his granddaughter, Sarah Barney:
Elizabeth Taylor was married to Richard George and had a daughter Sarah,
who married Benjamin Griffin, the son of Robert and Hannah. They had Sarah
Griffin, who was my grandmother. She married, first, Jonathan Barney,
then JUohn Poyl, then Charles Whitfield.
GBFA: Of the marriage of Johathan and Sarah (Griffin) Barney, the names
of the following children are known: Benjamin, Sarah, Jonathan, Jacob.
