  He was known by "Capt. John"; he was a carpenter in Guilford, 1790 Census. He died at the age of 76. "Barney Record Book" Bk 1, pp 30, 55; Bk 3, p 113 "Jacob Barney, 1634" pp 124, 130 by Mary E. Wesbrook, 1982. Ensign, Commissioned Feb. 1762, Capt. John Wheeler's 2nd (Rehoboth) Co., Col. Jerathmeel Bowers' First (Bristol Co.) Regt. Also in the Revolution Natl. Gen. Soc. Quarterly, Vol. 5-8 p.23: "One of the founders and most prominent citizens of Guilford, Vt." DAR Lineage Book 60:17 - John Barney (1730-1807) a patriot, served as committee member 1776 from Pomfret, Conn. where he was born; he removed to Guilford, Vt. in 1762.
