• Notes

  Patrick Stafford came to John Kinsley's Irish Settlement in 1846, his former home having been in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. Mr. Stafford was killed some ten years later by a falling tree, which he and others were chopping down. The death of Mr. Stafford, right in the prime of his life, was not only a serious loss to his family, but to the whole community, when so sparsely settled. In fact, it was a good fortune that more lives were not lost when felling trees, as these sturdy pioneers had no experience in this kind of work.
