- Simon was reported to have come from Valenciennes near Landrecy, b;ut styled himself as a Walloon. He went to Holland to escape religious persecution and remained for 15 years, marrying twice - his second wife being Magdelena Vad der Straaten. Nothin is known concerning his first wife, other than she was the mother of his two older daughters, born in Holland about 1645 and 1647.
These children accompanied their father and step-mother when they came to America. They sailed on the ship De Trouw, a private trader which left Harlingen, Holland 13 Feb 1659. Simon's name appeared on the passenger list as "Symon Drune from Henegouw". Simon was one of thirty two men who settled in Harlem to the north of New Amsterdam. He first owned two lots on Jochem Pieters Flad, and 1662 acquired Lot #3 of the same grant, which lay between the Harlem River and old Kingbridge Road.
