Attended Palmyra Academy. Later, he attended Hobart College, in Geneva NY and completed a medical course in the office of Dr. Samuel McIntyre of Palmyra. Received his diploma from the State Censor (One of the two out the five to pass the rigid examination).
John Stafford purchased a deed to Pew No. 2 west in the Meeting House of the Methodist Episcopal Church of the Village of Manchester, New York for $11.50 on January 25, 1847. He paid $26.00 for the east half of Lot 116, of the Village Cemetery of Palmyra, New York on Apr 8 1872.

John Stafford, who would have been 100 years old on March 15, February 24, at his home in Rochester, N. Y. He was perhaps the oldest physician In the State, having been born in Manchester, Ontario county, N. Y., and educated at Hobart College, receiving his diploma from the old board of censors. He practiced In Manchester, N. Y., until 1875, when he removed to Rochester. [page 345]
