Shortsville, July 7 - The funeral of Mrs. Margaret Chittenden was held from her home on Main street, Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock, Rev. W. C. Moyer, pastor of the Methodist church at Aloquin, officiating. The burial was Brookside Cemetery, Shortsville. The bearers were Charles Broomfield, Charles Rogers, Frank Hulburt, B. Q. Slocum, C. M. Mack and J. I. Reynolds. Mrs. Chittenden died at her home on Monday morning following a short illness. She was born in the town of Farmington, June 17, 1845, a daughter of David and Samantha Stafford Payne. In 1865 she was married to James Chittenden, while he was still serving in the Civil War. About 20 years ago they came to Shortsville to reside. She was a members of the Shortsville Methodist church and a charter member of the Shortsville grange. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Russell McLouth of Clifton Springs; two brothers, Collins Payne of Palmyra and Eugene Payne of Manchester; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
