Burton W. Stafford, 85, of Greensboro, North Carolina, formerly of Pawcatuck, Connecticut, passed away May 8, 2008. Mr. Stafford was born in Newport, Rhode Island on March 4, 1923.
Mr. Stafford was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving in World War II and earning a Purple Heart and the Bronze Service Star during the Battle of the Bulge.
He graduated from Brown University, received his Master's Degree from the University of Rhode Island, and his 6th year Professional Certification from the University of Connecticut. He was employed for 33 years with the Stonington Public Schools and retired in 1985 as principal of Pawcatuck Middle School, Pawcatuck, Connecticut. He was a member of numerous professional organizations.
Mr. Stafford was preceded in death by his brothers, George, William and Elwood, and his sister, Janice.
He was the loving husband of his devoted wife, Gloria M. Stafford, for 56 years. He cherished his son, Jay Stafford and wife, Antonia, and his precious granddaughter, Ashley Ann Stafford, all of Greensboro.
