Samuel was mentioned in his Maternal Grandfather Josiah (Stover) Stafford's will. He also quit claimed property in Tiverton to his Uncle, David Stafford.
On 30 Oct 1765, Nathan Simmons Jr. of Freetown, Mass. for 40 Spanish Milled Dollars, deeded David Stafford of Tiverton, RI, Yeoman, 3 acres 41 1/2 rods land (* which was the property of Sarah Stafford, mother of Samuel Stafford of the County of Pasolank (?) in the province of North Caroline, which said land I purchased of said Samuel Stafford who was party to the said premises by the last will and testement of Joisah Stafford of said Tiverton, deceased. At the death of Sarah Stafford, Grandmother to the said Samuel Stafford and said Sarah Stafford dying intestate and send unto the said Samuel, son and heir at Law unto the said Samuel Stafford, decease"). It being the 7th part of his land wereon he lived at his death in right of his said deceased mother, Sarah Stafford who was co-heir with Elizabeth, Bethiah, Bathsheba, Phebe, Hannah and Patience Stafford under will of Josiah Stafford deceased..

On 19 June 1769, Samuel Stafford of Co. Pasquatank (?) North Caroline, ... we here unto moving, -- deeded David Stafford of Tiverton, RI, Yeoman, for L 40 in Spanish Milled Dollars, "Title, interest etc... I said Samel Stafford have by will of Hon. Grandfather Josiah Stafford ... In all land and housing set off to Hon. Grandmother Sarah Stafford, for her 2/3 rds of estate of Josiah Stafford."

Louise Stafford Bates has another opinion as to Samuel's orgins. She believes that he is the son of William Stafford 4th.
Thank you for your reply, Erin. Perhaps some day, I will find who the siblings of Samuel Stafford are. In the past, I have been contacted about the Stafford/Stover line and do see similiarities, but they are not ours. I am aware that some researchers have connected the two lines, but our documents and research show no connection to the Stover line. A professional genealogist in NC found church records for my Samuel and Josiah in Pasquotank that show them as residents in VA prior to moving to NC. The church records also show Josiah's wife, Sarah Ivey. This information ties in to the land and census records in NC. Josiah Stafford, son of Samuel, also participated in the Revolutionary War under Col. Shepherd of the North Carolina line.

That I Samuel Stafford, being Sick and weak of body, but of sound and disposing Sense and Memory thanks be given to God therefore calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing it is apportioned for men once to die, do make and ordain these presents to contain my last will in manner and form as is hereafter mentioned-
Imprimis- I give to my son Josiah Stafford, One ---- colt and hand gun and one large oval ---
To him and his heirs - - -
Item I give to my daughter Sarah Stafford one silver Sejanis chair and two silver spoons to her and her heirs.
Item I give to my son Samuel Stafford one large Bible, One Ewe and Lamb and half dozen pewter plates to him and his heirs
Item I give to my daughter Mary Stafford two silver Spoons and one case of bottles to her and her heirs.
Item I give to my son Joseph Stafford one feather bed Furniture to him and his heirs.
Item I give to wife the use of the above mentioned Legacies during her natural life
Item I give to my wife all the residue and remaining part of my estate to her and her disposal
Item I also nominate, constitute and appoint my wife Executrix And Robert Hosea and my son Josiah Stafford Executors Of this my last will and Testament, hereby revoking and Disallowing all other Wills before this time made by Me, ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my Last Will and testament in witness whereof
