e-mail from Charlie Vella on 19 Aug 99:
Bill
In Howard Houghton's book Our Houghton Heritage, he gives the will of
Thomas Houghton Jr (21 Dec. 1784, Hopewell, NJ), Mary Houghton's brother.
In it he references William Drake ("bequeath to my nephew Joab Stout a
Certain piece of Woodland which I purchased of William Drake") and Mary
Drake ("I give and bequeath unto my Niece mary Drake a pair of Sheats and
two Coverlids."). I would read this as evidence that Mary Drake, was
daughter of William Drake and Mary Houghton, was niece of Thomas Houghton
Jr, brother of said Mary Houghton. I believe this is evidence for your link.
The only other data source that Howard cites is Genealogical Memoirs of
Reding, Conover, Hoagland and Houghton Families by Clara Reding Prim, 1930,
who on p. 34 gives marriage of Mary Houghton and William Drake. I have not
seen this source.

Could "under age William" mentioned below be the William DRAKE who married Mary HOUGHTON.
William Drake, born Abt. 1716 in Hunterdon Co, NJ; died Bet. 14 Mar 1751/52 - 06 Apr 1752 in Hopewell, Hunterdon, NJ; married Susannah Drake Farnsworth; born Abt. 1716.
Notes for William Drake:
Will dated 14 Mar 1752; proved 6 Apr 1752: Names wife, Susannah, and a son William (under age).
Information on Ancestry.com indicated that William (under age) was born in 1739 which
would have made him 14 when his father died. Marriage date is listed as 1737.
Will shows William Drake of New York died in 1826, which would have make him 87 years old.

....................... +William Drake b: Abt. 1730 d: 1752

1750 would have only made him 76 which is more reasonable. Could Mary have been
born much later also?
Children of WILLIAM DRAKE and MARY ? are:
i. MARY2 DRAKE, m. ? RIGGS.
Notes for MARY DRAKE:
From the will of Thomas Houghton, Jr. he leaves money to his niece Mary Drake, so I have guessed that this would be a daugher of this marriage.

CHILI PRESBYTERIAN CEMETERY
Chili, New York
This cemetery is located on the west side of Chestnut Ridge Road just north of the intersection with Chili Avenue.
The tombstones in this cemetery were copied in July 1985 by Mary T. Douglas of the Irondequoit Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. They were copied
again in 1935 by Mrs. Mary B. Wells and Frances M. Witmer of Leroy, NY. These two lists were combined and a visit was made to cemetery in Aug. 1991 by Richard T. Halsey and some corrections and additions were done at that time.

Notes for JOHN STOUT:
The original linkage making John STOUT the son of Abraham is based on information in Herald F. Stout's "STOUT and Allied Families, and the LDS Family Group Record #55159.
Information from ancestral file lists his place of birth as Ovid, Seneca, NY. I changed this based on information found in "STOUT and Allied Families" by Herald F. Stout, third edition published in 1986 and the other evidence as shown below.
The following information is from Nathan Stout's 1823 "History of the Stout Family"
---------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------
Abraham was born in the year 1735. He was married when about twenty-one to Elizabeth Houghton, daughter of Thomas Houghton, by whom he had five children, three sons and two daughters, viz: Solomon, Joab, Ely Mary and Rachel. He then lost his first wife, and married her sister Alice, by whom he had one son, whom he called John. His second wife died also, after which he married Anne Stout, the daughter of Benjamin Stout, by whom he had one daughter, and in the forty-second year of his age he died also.
The above document computes Abrahams death as 1777. His daughters name from Anne Stout was Sarah Stout. We also have the following from New Jersey Records, 1665-1800 by William Nelson, originally published in 1900 and reissued in 1973 by the Genealogical Publishing Company of Baltimore
Name County Spouse County Date
Stout, Abraham Hunterdon Houghton, Alee 19 Jan 1774
Stout, Abraham Hunterdon Stout, Ann Somerset 26 Oct 1775
I received the frollowing from Diane Nelson, CGRS, Town of Covert Historian and
Lake View Cemetery Secretary.
---------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------
John H. Stout died 28 Jun 1841 age 66-4-1 is buried at McNeil Cemetery,
Town of Ovid. The cemetery is about 3 miles from Lake View Cemetery. It is
sometimes called the Gospel Lot Cemetery as it is on the Gospel Lot
(Military Lot reserved for the church and/or school when the lots were laid
out in the 1790s.
The cemetery record equates his date of birth to 27 Feb 1775. This fits exactly with the short period of time that his father was married to Alice (Alee) Houghton.
