- My g-grandfather, Bernard Steimer, born November 12, 1852 in Germany, was a butcher by trade (and a furniture mover when money was tight). His father's name was Albert. In a tragic accident on March 27, 1913, he was accidently asphyxiated by illuminating gas, leaving behind his widow, Mary (Zipper) Steimer and five children. Mary was born April 18, 1856 in Chillicothe, OH to german immigrants Frank Zipper and Anna Strickle. According to the 1900 census Bernard and Mary were living at 151 Ames Street, Rochester, and had five children: Albert (b. 1877); Clara (my grandmother, b. Dec 4, 1882 in Toledo, OH); Edwin (b. 1886); Matilda (b. 1890) and Louise (b. 1893). Mary died from an acute gallbladder attack on March 9, 1925. She and Bernard are buried beneath a large headstone in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. I was hoping there might be some obituaries. The Steimers were strict Roman Catholics and members of SS Peter and Paul parish. Perhaps this will ring a bell with someone.
Thanks again,
Arthur Stafford
