- In "The Brownell Chronicles" Bill Brownell explainsthat Robert Brownell moved back and forth between Portsmouth and Little Compton between the years of 1689, when he was in Portsmouth, to 1704. In 1690 he sold his Little Compton property and in 1704 he is listed as a taxpayer of Portsmouth and then he was back in Little Compton in 1721 and died there in 1728. He had two daughters that gave birth out of wedlock, Ann and Margaret. Ichabod Burgess Brownell was born 17 October 1712, son of Ann, with his father being Thomas Burgess who was fined in court and ordered to pay support of his son. Ichabod was born 10 years before Ann married William Joy and at the time of his birth his father was married to his second wife, Martha (Wilbur) Closson who had given birth to his daughter, Mary, one month before Ichabod was born.
