  This Henry Stafford\Safford was formerly the Earliest Known Stafford for Stafford Society Branch 8. Branch 8 is now merged to Branch 4 because of the preponderance of circumstantial evidence. "'Henry Stafford, earliest known ancestor of our Stafford Family lineage. He was a planter living on "Staffords Lott" plantation in Sussex County, Deleware, Province of Pennsylvania, near Lewis." HENRY STAFFORD'S WILL: In the name of God, Amen the twenty-first day of May Anno domni....1776: I Henry Stafford of Sussex County and Province of Pennsylvania planter being sick and weak in body but of perfect mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament. As touching such worldly estate where with it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life. I give devise and dispose of the same in the following form & manner. First I give to my son Henry Stafford the sum of one silling-sterling as his full part of my Whole Estate and no more. I also give to my son Levi Stafford the sum of one shilling-sterling as his full part of my Whole Estate and no more. I also give to my son Nathan Stafford the sum of one shilling-sterling as his full part of my Whole Estate and no more. i also give to my son Zorobabel Stafford the sum of one shilling sterling as his full part of my Whole Estate. I also give and Bequeath unto my two youngest sons - Zadoc Stafford and Robertson Stafford all my Lands which I have not before called: Stafford's Lott: and in case either of them deicases without Lawful Issue then for the other brother to possess his land as also my will is for my son Robertson Stafford to have my Dwelling plantation. I also give to my daughter Mary Pegg: the sum of one shilling - Sterling money as her full part of my Whole Estate. I also leave my wife Elizabeth Stafford my Whole and Sole Exeurtrix and profits of all my Lands during her Widowhood. I also leave all my Moveable Estate (my Wifes thirds Exepted) unto my four daughters: Namely: Rachel Stafford, Elizabeth -Lovey - Do - Delight - Do - and Mary Stafford. Acknowledged by me the said Henry Stafford to be my Last Will and Testament: in Witness Whereof I have hereunto set my Hand and seal the Day and Year first above mentioned. Personally appeared before me Phillips Kollock, Register appointed for the probate of Wills and Granting letters of Administration, for the County of Sussex on Delaware. Robert Clarkson, and Valentine Hager, two of the witnesses to the within Will, Subscribing and being Solemly Sworn on the holy Evangelists of Almighty God, deposeth and Saith, that in their Sight presence and hearing, the Testator Henry Stafford, did Sign, Seal, Publish, Pronounce and Declare the within and foregoing writing to be his last Will and Testament, and that at the doing thereof the Said Testator was of Sound and perfect desposing mind, memory and Judgement (to the best of their knowledge and belief) And that they and each of them together with James Cooper, Subscribe the same as Evidences at Request and in presence of the Testator. Paid in part 20/6 There is also a track of land in Sussex Co., DE near Bridgeville called "Saffords Venture" surveyed by Roger Adams and is mentioned in the History of Delaware, 1888, p. 1278, which both Safford and Adams names have ties here. An assessment roll of 1785 of North West Fork Hundred list the following: Henry Stafford, Levi, Thomas, Abraham & Zadock Safford. Will: Named in will: wife Elizabeth, sons Henry, Levi, Nathan, Zorababel, Zadoc and Robertson; daughters Elizabeth, Rachel, Lovey, Delight and Mary (Pegg).
