- William Stiford (Stafford), a successful farmer and stock raiser of Pike Township, was born in Obion County, Tennessee, January 8, 1859 and is the son of Isaac and Nancy (Pipkins) Stilford (Stafford), natives of Weakley County, Tennessee. They both died in Stoddard County, Missouri in 1879 (1899?), They were married in Weakley County, Tennessee (?) , and moved from there to Obion County when their son William was quite young. Mr. Stilford
(Stafford) had learned the miller's trade and followed that business until he came to Missouri whe he turned his attention to farming. Both parents were members of the Presbyterian Church. To their marriage were born seven children, three now living. William Stilford (Stafford), was the third child born to this union. He remained with his parents until twenty-one years of age, when he began for himself as a farmer. December 5, 1881, he
chose for his companion in life Mrs. Eliza Poplin, a daughter of Mr.Palmer and the widow of Joshua Poplin. This union resulted in the birth of two children; Dollie and Ollie.
