(IV) De Witt , son of William (2) and Amanda (Norris) Stafford , was born in Connellsville, Pennsylvania , April 28, 1874 . He was educated in the public school and learned the carpenter's trade, which occupation he followed in his native city. Since 1905 he has been successfully engaged in contracting and building for himself. He has prospered and has made some investments in West Virginia coal lands. His home is on Will's Road, erected in 1907 . He is a Democrat in politics.
He married, November 2, 1896 , Alice Powell , born in Wales , who came to the United States in 1882 with her parents, Daniel and Mary Jane (Jones) Powell , both born in Wales and now living at Greenwood, Fayette county . Children of De Witt Stafford : Robert , born June 25, 1897 ; Margaret , born August 2, 1899 ; Helen , born January 24, 1903 ; Joseph , born January 12, 1906 ; William , born September 27, 1908 ; Lulu Ruth , born May 28, 1912.
