-- MERGED NOTE ------------
from the Census
Westley Stafford, aged 58, 1850 Census (born 1792, VA, probably Hampshire County)
An unidentified male of Westley's age range was recorded in the household of John Stafford, 1810, Allegany County, Maryland. It could have been Westley.
Westley was also a veteran of the War of 1812.
CENSUS
1820 VA Hampshire County, page 265: Stafford, Westley
At some point in timeI had transcribed the 1820 household for Westley Stafford as consisting of only one man, born in the 1794-1804 range, but upon examination of the original handwritten record, it seems to show the following household: 210100-20000
This translates as a man born 1794-1804, presumably Westley himself; a male, born 1804-1810; two males born 1810-1820; and two females born 1810-18
20. Who these five youngsters are is unknown to me.
An examination of the handwritten record shows that the census taker may have entered information for more than one family in the same row...Westley's household might actually only consist of himself.; it's kind of hard to tell.
1830 OH Harrison County, Shortrock, page 109: Stafford, Westley
1840 OH Greene County, Sugar Creek Township: Stafford, Wesley
1850 IN Fayette County, page 178: Stafford, Westley
1860 IN Kosciusko County, page 419: Sarah Stafford, widow, in the household headed by her son step-son James Stafford; other children in household
.
MARRIAGE RECORDS:
Stafford, Westley to Sarah Corbin, 18 Jun 1829, Harrison County, Ohio
Westley's first wife, the mother of his first three sons, died after the birth of their son James in 1828.
Westley apparently died between 1850/1860, in Fayette or Kosciusko County, Indiana. Heather Stafford says his headstone is in the Spring Creek Cemetery, but Cindy Stafford Fenimore has found only Sarah's headstone, and says Westley died in Fayette County.
In the 1880 census, found with some of Westley's descendants, are a Francis Stafford (born 1828, Ohio; married to Louisa; children Ida, Marion, and Della) and Milton Stafford (born 1838, Indiana; married Lucinda; child
en Curtis and Susie E.). It is possible they are the sons of William Stafford.
Census:
- Wife and children listed.
