I believe I am a descendant of Rosana (Ferguson) and Jacob Stafford of Sussex Co, DE. They had at least two children who were minors when Jacob died in 1756, a boy named James who could be the one listed by Mike, above, and I *think* a daughter Sarah who married my ancestor William Joseph. James was named in one of the Orphans Court records in Sussex Co., but the other child was not named.
Rosanna remarried, and also moved with her new husband to present-day Cumberland Co., PA. The 2d husband died testate in 1786, mentioning his children Margaret and Seth, and wife Rosanna. Seth briefly came to Monongalia Co. in the 1780s/90s, but moved on to Ohio. I suspect his mom Rosanna had come with him to Monongalia Co, but have not yet proved this one way or another.
William Joseph and Sarah Stafford definitely married in the south-central area of Sussex Co, DE in 1766, and shortly moved for a few years to Bedford Co, PA, then by 1771 to an area SE of present-day Morgantown, Monongalia Co, WV. William was living in Monongalia Co when he had a Sussex Co, DE deed recorded in 1784, selling his share of his father's land, giving his residence at the time. William's brother, Joseph Joseph, also moved here a bit later, and died testate in 1796.
Numerous witnesses to their marriage signed the marriage certificate. Some were members of a Walls family of which part also moved to the same area of Monongalia Co - between Morgantown and the Cheat River. Some of these were actively relating with the Josephs in Monongalia Co., doing stuff like witnessing wills, and one daughter married a son of William and Sarah. Other witnesses were members of a Conwell family into which the above Rosanna (Ferguson) Stafford's sister Vilinda had married. Also moving to this immediate area were James Stafford and wife Lucrecia, from parts unknown, and the family of John Burrows who had taken the same route from Sussex Co., DE as had William and Sarah Joseph.
Among the children of William and Sarah (Stafford) Joseph was Rosanna (Joseph) Amos, my ancestor.
