Francis Marion Stafford was born on a plantation in the vicinity of Kernersville, Forsyth Co., and from his youth up was interested in agriculture. He became the owner of two valuable farms near Kernersville, and in addition to superintending the management of both was successfully engaged in mercantile pursuits in Kernersville, where he resided until his death, at the age of 73 years. He married Sarah Elizabeth Teague, a native of Deep River Township, Forsyth Co. Of the union, six children were born, as follows: William C.; Emory Junius; Abram G.; Charles S.; Jerome H.; and Viola M, wife of Dr. R. R. Watkins.

Historic Francis Marion Stafford House, c. 1840
Francis Marion Stafford bought the house in 1857 and brought his young bride to live there for the next 47 years. A son, William Cornelius Stafford purchased the house from his father's estate in 1905. The house was moved from 635 S. Main Street to 711 S. Main Street by Sallie Greenfield, the great-granddaughter of Francis Marion Stafford. It is located in Kernersville's Historic District.
