- From obituary in Postville Review 1/16/1892. In early life he moved with his parents, first to Michigan and then to Illinois. In 1850 he joined the rush for gold, and crossed the plains to California. Here he spent 18 years, sharing the varied experiences of the early gold seekers. He came to Postville in 1868. Four of his five childred survived him. He had been an invalid since Sept. 1889, when the anueurism of the aorta, from the effects of which he died, first appeared. He was an active and efficient member of the M. E. Church.
Went to California for the gold rush for 18 years.
