  John Welch was appointed guardian of Morgan at age 14 in 1829. In late 1848 or early 1849 Morgan, his family, and several other families left Illinois to settle in Texas. The Greenwoods, Harts, Walls, and Milsaps were some of the other families that moved to Texas during this time. Morgan's oldest daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Stafford, married EL Walls on the way to Texas (this information provided by Donald Wright Stafford). Morgan Stafford was accidently killed while digging a well soon after moving to Fannin County, Texas. He was buried on the family farm several miles outside of Ladonia, Fannin County, Texas.
