Note:
Obituary from the Pine Island Record, dated April 14, 1904: Jackson Stafford,
a notice of whose death on April 6th appeared in these columns last week, was
born at Folwer, St. Lawrence Co., N.Y. on July 10, 1837 and remained a
resident of that place until august, 1864, when he enlisted in Battery D,
First New York LightArtillery, with which organization he served until the end
of the war. After the war he moved to Minnesota and in 1871 located in New
Haven on the farm which has since been his home.
In September 1880 he was united in marriage, at Rochester, with Miss Ellen
Roderick, of New Haven, who survives him.
Mr. Stafford was a familiar figure in this vicinity for many years, genial
and large hearted, he held a warm place in the hearts of all who knew him. For
many years he has been a member of Jo Mower Post, G. A. R. of this place,
whose members will lose, in his death, a true comrade and his associates a
steadfast friend.
He was one of seven children, all of whom, except one, Alice, survive him.
His aged father also survives to mourn his loss.
The funeral was held from the Methodist church in this village Friday
afternoon at 2 o'clock and the interment was made in Pine Island cemetery.
