George Henshaw moved to Kentucky in 1819 and settled near Geiger Lake, where he was one of the first settlers in Union County. He was very poor at first, but before many years he amassed a fortune. He was one of the largest land owners in the county. The town of Henshaw, Kentucky, is named for him. Sarah died 29 June 1855, Union County, Kentucky at the age of 49. S
heis buried in the Rowley Cemetery on Kentucky 109, near Henshaw, Kentucky. She died from typhoid fever. At about the same time, three of their black slaves--Alford, male, 20; Jane, female, 30; and Fanny, female, 17--also died of typhoid. George Henshaw died 04 Sep 1882, Union County, Kentucky. He is buried in the Rowley Cemetery. His will, dated 16 Jun 1880, states:
"I, George Henshaw of Union County, Kentucky, do hereby make and publish and declare my last will and testament as follows.
1st, I hereby revoke all other wills and codicils by me heretofore made.
2nd, I hereby appoint my two sons John E. Henshaw and W.B. Henshaw both of Union County, Kentucky, the executors of this will.
3rd, I will and direct all my estate both personal and real shall be so
ld and all the debts due me collected and after paying out of the proceeds of my funeral expenses and all my debts. I bequest to John E. Henshaw fourteen hundred and ninety one dollars. To my daughter Mary W. Ray fourteen hundred and twenty one (1421) dollars. To my son Felix G. Henshaw seventeen hundred and fifty six (1756) dollars, to my son Wm. B. Henshaw seventeen hundred and fifty six (1756) dollars, to my daughter Sizzie Bell seventy hundred and fifty six (1756) dollars, to my daughter Julia Sale,fifty one (51) dollars and to the children of my daughter Georgianna Fa
rley seven hudred fifty six (756) dollars, and I will and direct after the payments of the expenses, debts, and bequests aforesaid the balance be equally divided among my children as follows: To John E. Henshaw one share. To the children of Mary W. Ray one share. To Felix G. Henshaw one share. To Wm. B. Henshaw one share. To Sizzie Bell one share. To my daughter D.R. Bolir one share and to the children of my daughter Georgianna Farley one share and to my daughter Julia Sale one share.
4th, I will and direct that my executors shall sell all my real estate in lots or parcels to said purchasers at public sale after all advertiz
ement in the manner required by law for the sale of similar property under execution of at least 30 days at the front door of the court house door in the town of Morganfield, Union Co., Kentucky for one third of the pr
