  FROM David E. Cann Lyman Loch10 served in the military between 1861 and 1865 in the Civil War .10 He is said to have served in the Civil War from beginningto end, b ut no other information has been located about his military service. Parents: David Loch and Adeline Stafford. Spouse: Susan Carter. Lyman Lochand Susan Carter were married.10,11 Child ren were: Frank Loch, Arthur Loch, Adeline Loch, Cassius M. Loch, Jose ph H. Loch, Mary Loch. MARRIAGE Bartholomew County Marriages, Book C-6:176, Lyman L. Lock to Susan Carte r, 30 Apr 1857. CIVIL WAR SERVICE Lyman L. Locke, resident of Bartholomew County, Indiana,enlisted 15 August 1861 as a private in Company E 22nd Indiana Volunteer Infantry; distinguised service until he mustered out 22 August 1864 after three years of service. He filed for pension 19 April 1890 as an invalid, application # 769274, certificate #980343, in Minnesota. Interestingly enough, therewere two Lyman L. Lockes who served in the Civil War; ours from Indiana, and another from New Hampshire; and both we re married to women named Susan, although ours was definitely Susan Carte r, while the other seems to have been Susan Cater. Go figure! There is also evidence that Lyman Locke may have been attached to Comapny H, 88 Illinois Infantry, and possibly with the 22nd Illinois Infant ry as well. CENSUS 1870 MN McLeod County, Lynn, page 2/14/14: Lymon & Susan Lock 1880 IA Guthrie County, Cass, page 84D/151/156: Lyman & Susan Loche MINNEAPOLIS A biography of Benjamin P. Light, found at www. pressenter.com, states that Bejamin Light, born 1823, came to Hennepin County when he heard that la nd was so cheap. He drove two teams of oxen and was accompanied by Lyman Locke, who settled on a preemptory piece of property in Hennepin County. This seems to have been late 1850s or early 1860s; probably just aft erthe Civil War, or at least after 1864. They were definitely in Hennepin County by the time Samuel Arthur Locke was born in 1868. I haven't found a death date for Lyman L. Locke yet (03-2005), but he was still living at 1824 Quincyand working as a carpenter, listed in the Minneapolis City Directory 1889-91, as found at www.ancestry.com. He is, however, buried in Minnesota.
