William Brace Jr. received his education at Cumberland Academy (also call
ed Allegany County Academy), supplemented by several years of private instruction under the Rev. John W. Nottof Mt. Savage. At 19, he started studying law in the office of Judge Pearceat Cumberland. Admitted to the bar 19 Oct 1871; practiced in the office of Judge Pearce, associate judge of the 4th Judicial Circuit of Maryland.
He was a republican in politics.
In 1873, he was nominated and elected to the House of Delegates
In 1876, he formed a partnership with Benjamin A. Richmond, Brace & Richmond.
In 1877, he was the only republican elected to the Legislature.
He married Maggie Thomas, daughter of Joseph B. and Margaret Thomas of Frostburg, 11 June 1879.
In 1881, he was re-elected to the Legislature.
In 1882,he was nominated and elected to the Senate of Maryland after a hotly contested campaign against Democratic favorite J. B. Oder. He served until 1886.
He was a member and past master of Ohr Lodge AF & AM, among other clubs and organizations.
In 1888, he located in Chicago where he was a representative of the Bar of Chicago, Illinois. He died in 1908. It is unknown if he had any children.
