Cresaptown, MD - John William Stafford, Sr., 83, of Cresaptown, MD, passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at his home.
Born December 26, 1930, in Canfield, OH, Mr. Stafford was the son of the late Charles Hanson Stafford and Bessie Mae (Blubaugh) Stafford.
He was also preceded in death by a brother: Paul M. Stafford.
John retired from the United States Naval Service having served during the Korean and Vietnam Eras.
After his military service, John retired from the Chessie System. He was a member of the Naval Fleet Reserve, the Destroyer Escort Association, the Cresaptown United Methodist Church, and the Cresaptown Crime Watch.
John is survived by his wife of 63 years, M. Virginia (Miller) Stafford; his sons: John W. Stafford, Jr., and wife, Elzbieta, Falls Church, VA; and Donald M. Stafford and wife, Jody Batz, Clarksburg, MD. He also leaves behind his sister: Grace Fisher and husband, Jack, Frostburg, MD; and his grandchildren: Sean and Nicholas Stafford. Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, on Monday, April 21, 2014, from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at 11:00 A.M., with Reverend Hal Atkins and Reverend Harold R. McClay officiating.
The family will also receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by Post #13 Veterans Honor Guard.
Interment will be at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap.
