CUMBERLAND,MARYLAND -- Wilma G. (Stafford) Lantz, 89, of Cumberland, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012 at the Golden Living Center, Cumberland.
Born on Dec. 20, 1922 in Cumberland, Wilma was the daughter of the late Adam C. Stafford and Myrtha P. (Rice) Stafford. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Ruth P. (Stafford) Snider; a brother, Floyd C. Stafford; a daughter, Gloria D. (Lantz) Crawford; and a son-in-law, David R. Brown.
Wilma was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where she was the Relief Society President, President of the Young Women's Association, and was a visiting teacher. She was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the District 16 Volunteer Fire Department where she was very active, and held numerous offices. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Post 13. Wilma was also a member of the Fort Hill Band Parents Association, and worked the concession stands and sold tickets at all sporting events for 25 years.
Wilma is survived by her husband of 70 years, Donald D. Lantz; her daughters, Sandra J. Liedy and her husband Bernard, Janet K. Carder, and Donna L. Brown and her sons-in-law, Roger D. Crawford, Philip M. Carder and James E. Judy, all of Cumberland, her brother, Roy W. Stafford and his wife Elouise of Corriganville; her sister, Mary I. (Patty) Hamilton and her husband Earl, of Boonsboro; her brother-in-law, Homer R. Snider and sister-in-law Betty L. Stafford, both of Cumberland.
In addition, Wilma is survived by 15 grandchildren, David D. Liedy, Brian R. Liedy, Philip E. Carder, Vicki L. (Liedy) Gelles, Thomas E. Carder, Jill S. (Liedy) Davis, Timothy S. Carder, Jennifer D. (Crawford) Newmeyer, Christina M. (Carder) Mackereth, Jonathan D. Crawford, Matthew A. Carder, Shane D. Brown, Eric I. Crawford and Adam C. Crawford.
She is survived by 30 great grandchildren, Jade Ellis, Tanner and Hillary Liedy, Justin, Lindsey and Kelsey D'Atri, Bryanna and Katelyn Gelles, Allison Moorcraft and Sarah Holland, Tasha, Andrew, Rachel, Kirsten, Morgan, Riley and Adaline Carder, Joseph and Catrina Evans, Michael and Ivy Mackereth, Kayla Watts, Camden and Holden Crawford, Gavin, Bryce and Gabrielle Newmeyer, Nelson Raines, Jillian and Kathryn Sudan.
She is also survived by two great-great grandchildren, Karina Metz and Levi Lantz Holland.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, LaVale on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with Steven C. Grow Presiding, Lucian Heriott Conducting, and Speaking will be Roger D. Crawford. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Wilma's grandsons, David Liedy, Brian Liedy, Philip Carder, Thomas Carder, Patrick Carder and Adam Crawford. Honorary pallbearers will be Jon Crawford, Timothy Carder, Matthew Carder, Shane Brown, Eric Crawford, Mike Gelles, Jerry Newmeyer and Brian Davis.
Interment will be in Maryland State Veterans Cemetery, Rocky Gap, Flintstone.
