He never married.

It was during the civil war that he became interested in doctoring. He would nurse the wounded or sick soldiers, and he became a much-needed part of the company. For a time, he was left at a big house that was set up as a hospital for the wounded or sick from various companies. He said that the wooden floor in front of the fireplace was permanently stained with blood. When he was in a battle, he wouldn't shoot. When asked why, he said he didn't see anybody he wanted to kill.

Thanks to Steve Teeft, civil war historian: Floyd S. Stafford - Enlisted July 3, 1861 in Logan Country and served in Co. B, of the 36th VA Infantry. at the age of 23. He was detached as a nurse in Chattanooga, TN following the Ft. Donelson, TN Campaign in Feb 1862. The regiment reorganized, and his company was redesignated Co. D - The Logan Co Wildcats - Floyd was present until wounded at Fayetteville, VA (Now, WV), Sept 10, 1862. Record stated that he possibly deserted at some point in the war, and took an oath. He was 5' 10" tall, gray eyes, sandy hair.
