  Moved to California in 1909. John Edward Stafford was Alexander's oldest son. When reading John Edward's memoirs of growing up in Gilbert, it's plain to see that Alexander was very industrious, and very hard-working. In 1897, the Gilbert Presbyterian Church was started, with 15 members, who met in Alexander and Loventia's home. Alexander was the first elder of the church. The church membership grew, and the first church building was built in 1908 on property that was deeded to the church by the Staffords. According to the records of the Gilbert Post Office, Alex Stafford was the first Postmaster of Gilbert Post Office, from Sept. 3, 1885 to Sept. 4, 1889. Loventia Alderson Stafford was the fifth Postmaster of Gilbert Post Office, serving 14½ years, from Aug. 2, 1894 to Feb. 5, 1909. In 1909, Alexander and Loventia sold much of their property in West Virginia and moved to Lincoln, California. Alexander bought some nice property out in the country, not far from Lincoln, and built a beautiful two story house at the end of a long lane, with a big porch completely across the front and down the left side. Loventia wasn't able to enjoy it for very long, though. She passed away in April 1914. Alex and Loventia were very close, and they had a lot of fun together and joked a lot. Loventia died of Bright's Disease, which was the catch-all term for any kidney ailment. Alex took her "all over" trying to get medical help, but she didn't live very long after that. Alex knew how to make money, but the reason they prospered so much is because she was such a wonderful manager. In Dec. 1928, Alexander died in the house he had built near Lincoln. His daughter Lura fell heir to the place, and she lived there for many, many years (she lived to be 108 years old). The house is still kept in good repair by the current residents.
