  Cousin Joe Thomas knew Mary's daughter Dixie, and as a young man, Joe's grandfather worked for Anthony Cook. Joe wrote: "Dixie and her parents, if I remember correctly, lived near Toney's Fork, in or near Campus, WV. My grandpa told me that Anthony Cook was the first to have running water in his house in that area. He said they cut short sections of trees that were about 2"-3" dia. and punched holes through from each end with hot pokers. They then reduced the dia. of each so it would fit in the next one and laid them from a spring on the hillside to the house. Of course, the water ran all of the time, but they had an overflow from the collection tub to the outside of the house." Anthony Cook first married Sarah Ann "Annie" Hinchman, daughter of Floyd and Mary Ann Chambers Hinchman. Annie was born 9/28/1855 and died at the age of 22, on 7/25/1878, leaving two young sons. Anthony married Mary Catherine Stafford the following year, and Mary raised the two boys as well as her own three who soon came along. Many records showing Anthony have his last name spelled Cooke. Starting about this generation, the family dropped the "e", and now it is spelled Cook.
