  A LETTER FROM THOMAS AND NANCY E. SINGLETON TO LARKIN M. STAFFORD LIVING IN BLOOMFIELD, MO. Carroll County, Tennessee Oct. (nite) Dere friend I take this oppertunity of telling you so that we all in tolerble helth at this time I have had a longe spell of sickness have not seen a days worke in going on three munths but I am mending at this time hoping these lines may find you all enjoying good helth. Milphead (Milford Stafford) family is all well Doc was taken about the time I was mending very slo but is out of danger. I havent herd from Mac (Anderson Haywood Stafford) and Will (William Pinkney Stafford) for sum time it was thaut by sum of the solders that has caim home that Mack was kild and others that he was taken prisoner Will was in good helth. Tinney herd at this time is hard to describe the ribbles is trying to ge recruits and is getting right smart and taking all the good horses tha can get then comes the yankey and sweeps stakes horses muel wagones Hacky bed clothing men and womens clothing coutts of inny discription in fact inny thing thay lay ther hands on taken mens monney and if they refuse to give it up tha hist them to the first convenent lim till almost ded tha think sum of them will diy yet you can tell all about this things you have experied them about 6 or 7 hundred of each party run together at Comoo (Como, TN) on Wednesday last the reports says the Sutherners kild 6 and wonded some thirty or 40 taken 60 or 70 prisners. (Emiline) Singleton Larkin married in McLemoresville, TN on Aug 4, 1840.
