Mesick son of Jacob P. Mesick and Lovisa Mesick, born October 24, 1803. He was married on the 24th of January, 1827 to Phebe Lewis. They joined the Latter-day Saint Church together. After her death he married Maria Spencer Miller. When the Mormons left to go West, Peter wanted to move with the Saints but Maria, who had not joined the Church, refused to go. Peter, realizing the importance of his religion, decided he must go, so he took their eldest daughter, Almira, four years of age, and started West. Peter arrived in Nauvoo with his little girl and worked and lived at Hyrum Smith's home. When the Saints left Nauvoo for the west, Peter was among them. He joined the Mormon Battalion in Company "D" and left his little girl with a Winchester family. He went with the sick detachment to Pueblo where they stayed the winter, coming into Salt Lake Valley July 29th. In the fall of 1847, he went back to Winter Quarters (with Brigham Young) and there found his little daughter. At this time he met Cynthia Flint, a New England woman forty-seven years of age, whom he married. She proved to be a good mother to Aimira. She was a good tailoress and quite well-to-do. She brought all their supplies for the journey back to Utah (in 1848). In 1851, Peter I. Mesick and family were called on a mission to help colonize San Bernardino, California. Aimira married Ammon Green. They expected to make their home in Mexico, but could not go there in safety, so moved to Beaver, Utah. In 1859, they moved to Weber County to make their permanent home. Peter I. Mesick married, as plural wives, Flaville Leavitt Lloyd and Elizabeth Schneider. —Sally Briggs Alvord Mormon Battalion members
