  Sarah "Sallie" H. J. Stafford Flatt was the first wife of Austin LaFayette "Fate" Flatt and the daughter of James William and Mahalia Stafford. Mrs. Flatt was the paternal granddaughter of Merrill and Nicey Stafford. Merrill was born 1800 in Dublin Co., North Carolina, and his wife, Nicey, was born in 1805.
