OBITUARY:
Rose Adelaide Stafford Swindell, 100, of Athens, died Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at her home.
Born on Nov. 13, 1913, in Liberty County, in Flemington, Mrs. Swindell was the daughter of the late William Isham Stafford and Addie Daniel Stafford of Hinesville.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Athens, the Jewel Sunday School Class, the State Retired Teachers Association and the Athens Area Teacher's Association.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Swindell; brother, W.I. Stafford Jr.; sister, Josephine Pollock; sons, James F. Swindell and Bernard Swindell Jr.; nephew, David Swindell; and grandson, Bernard Swindell III.
Mrs. Swindell is survived by her sons, Paul Swindell (Mary) of Valdosta, Tom Swindell (Loralee) of Athens and Dan Swindell (Beth) of Kettering, Ohio; nephew, Arthur Pollock (Joy) of Savannah; grandchildren, Paula Sheffield (Larry) of Valdosta, Megan Shirley (Rhett) of Greenville , S.C., Dana Swindell of Portland, Ore., Vicki Capper and Susan Swindell; great-grandchildren, April Weeks (Chris) of Newberry, Fla., and Claire, Ford and Gus Shirley of Greenville.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 28, in the chapel of Lord and Stephens, EAST with the Dr. Frank Granger officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 27, and one hour prior to the service.
Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 29, in the Flemington Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Athens First Baptist Church Children's Fund, 355 Pulaski Street, Athens, GA 30601-2860.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Adelaide's caregivers, Ruth Young, Gayle Ehrisman, Elizabeth Romero, Terry, Nancy and David Puckett, as well as the St. Mary's Highland Hills Assisted Living staff.
