Notes |
In July 1775, the Pitt Militia was formed with Arthur Forbes elected Lieutenant and Samuel Stafford elected Ensign.
Samuel Stafford, fourth son of William Stafford V of New Hanover county, NC, and his wife, Elizabeth, came along with his brothers Col. William, Richard and Seth to Beaufort District, SC, but before the census of 1790 he had left there and moved over the Savannah river into GA. It is said that he settled somewhere near Springfield in that state; it is also said that he participated in the Revolutionary War.
According to the NEHGS Register, Samuel's father was "Col. Samuel Stafford of North Carolina who, it is said, was with the army at Braddock's defeat."
