• Notes

  Military: Confederate Soldiers of Western Virginia lists him in Co. F 8th Virginia. Samuel Jefferson Stafford enlisted in the Confederate military on the 16th of September, 1861 in Bland County. He became a private with the 8th Virginian Cavalry and was placed in Company F. Samuel was captured during this Battle of Cloyd's Mountain on May 9th of 1864. He became a prisoner of war at Camp Chase on May 26th 1864. Samuel died from chronic diarrhea on May 11th of 1865. He lies buried at the Camp Chase Confederate Cemetery Grave 451.
