Obituary of Susan Sprinkel Priest Kester; probably New Carlisle Sun; 1912; photocopy supplied by Catherine Kissinger Powers, Dayton, OH [original kept in Myron Kester Family Bible] to Dominique Delphine, Suquamish WA.
"***SUSAN SPRINKEL was born April 8, 1835 in Pike Township, Clark Co., Ohio, and died March 25, 1912, aged 76 years 11 months 18 days.
In early youth she gave her heart to God and united with the McKendree Methodist Church [Elizabeth Township, Miami County, OH] and remained a consistent member of that church until her death.
She was united in marriage on Dec. 7, 1856 to Obadiah Priest and settled down to the quiet country life on a farm about six miles north of New Carlisle. To this union were born three daughters, Mary, Alma, and Ida.
Being left a widow in Aug. 1868, she remained upon the farm managing its affairs and looking after the welfare of her children. During this time there were many perplexing problems to solve and difficulties to overcome, but through all she patiently persisted as only a mother can when guided by the Great Father above, and succeeded in rearing her family and providing them the necessary comforts of life.
In 1875 she was united in marriage to Mr. Arnold Kester and two years after came to New Carlisle to live but soon returned to the country where they resided until the death of Mr. Kester six years ago after which she and her daughter Ida moved to New Carlisle.
Mother Kester was of a quiet unassuming disposition but possessed a good true heart within which manifested itself in deeds of kindness to her neighbors and friends. Without a word of warning she was called to her reward. She leaves to mourn their loss one sister, Mrs. Nettie [John S.] Priest, a brother, Mr. George Sprinkle of Tippecanoe [Tipp City, Miami Co, OH], two daughters, Mrs. Mary Kester and Mrs. Ida Moorehead, three grandchildren [Almont, Ella, and Anna Kester] and two great-grandchildren [Mary M. and Helen K. Kissinger]."
