OSWEGATCHIE– Harry J. Pelno, age 83, of Oswegatchie, passed away on April 25, at home surrounded by his family.
Calling hours and memorial service will be at French Family Funeral Home, Star Lake on his Birthday, June 8, at a time to be announced. Burial will follow with military honors in the Woodland Cemetery, Fine.
Harry was born on June 8, 1929 in Thendara, to the late Floyd Joseph and Florence Mary (Savard) Pelno. He served in the United States Air Force as a Field Lineman from 1946 until his honorable discharge in 1953.
Harry J. Pelno married Carol Ann Stafford on October 22, 1954 at the Catholic Church in DeKalb Jct, St Lawrence Co., New York. A son David John Pelno was born on May 15. 1958 in Newton Falls, New York. Carol Ann Stafford Pelno died on 15 July, 1959 at their home in Newton Falls, St Lawrence Co., New York.
Mr. Pelno married Leatta LaParr on September 1, 2012 in Chaumont on the water. He worked for the Newton Falls Paper Mill for 35 years, retiring in 1991 as a Beater Engineer.
Harry was an avid gardener who loved his plants. Everybody took great enjoyment from the plants he grew. He also enjoyed fishing, collecting coins (especially pennies), and he was a Yankee's baseball fan.
His survivors include his wife, Leatta; three sons, David Pelno of Tupper Lake, John and Donna Pelno of Adams, Tim and Sherrie Pelno of Pinellas Park, FL; three daughters, Mary and Butch LaParr of Oswegatchie, Connie and Benjamin Watson of LaGrange, TX, Rhonda LaParr of Cranberry Lake; and two brothers, Bill Pelno of Seminole, FL and Bob Pelno of Star Lake. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and his nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents, 1st wife, and four brothers; his twin, Larry; Don, Lorne and Ivan.
