  Went to California in the spring of 1850 and later removed to Montana. Entered the Confederate Service in Aug 1861, at Houston TX, as a 2nd LT of Capt. S. M. Drake's Company. He wrote a diary about the Battle of Poison Springs. Census: Listed as Wm. M. Stafford a cotton clerk with wife Kate V. Three domestic servants were listed; Maria Moore B, age 50 b. TN, Vina Carr B, age 35 b. AL and Frad Road Mu, age 24 b. TX. Next door were Kate's parents. Listed as W. Maynord Stafford, a cotton broker, with wife Kate V, son Earl Zimbye, daughter Kate V. and brother Howard J. age 23. Parents born in LA. Listed as William M.
