Notes |
Anthony was born to William Ross and Elizabeth Cory and lived his entire life in the same place, excepting the 3 years and 1 day he served with the 73rd OVI during the Civil War. He was the father to 11 children altogether, from two wives, Syrena Elizabeth Cory Ross, then Sarah Emily Stafford Ross.
During his lifetime, Anthony was the owner of the mercantile/grocery in Good Hope, as well as being the Justice of the Peace there. His business partner in this was Isaac J. Sperry, who subsequently died at the battle of Gettysburg, at which time, Anthony took over the entire store.
The land that Good Hope Cemetary is on was donated by William Ross and the rumor is that Syrena Cory Ross was the first person buried there, however, her parents, James Cory and Rebecca Sperry Cory are buried there and they died before Syrena.
The Good Hope Cemetery is not located in Washington Court House, as the original person who entered this tells. Good Hope Cemetery is located in Good Hope, OH, just inside the city limits of Good Hope, on Highway 753.
Census:
