MANCHESTER - Major John Hugh Stafford, USAF Retired, 88, passed away Tuesday, August 28, 2018, in Manchester, New Hampshire.
John was born December 2, 1929, in Hillsboro, New Hampshire to George Henry Stafford and Garrie Celetes Crouse.
He was a 1948 graduate of Hillsboro High School, and a 1952 graduate of the University of New Hampshire, with a degree in biology. He received his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force on September 18, 1952. On April 23, 1955 he married Mary Elizabeth Wise of Baltimore, Maryland at Albrook Air Force Base, Panama Canal Zone. He and Mary celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary before her death last year. During his Air Force career, they were stationed in California; Panama; New York; Massachusetts; West Berlin, Germany; Maine; and New Hampshire. Since his retirement from the Air Force in 1972 with the rank of Major, they lived in Goffstown, New Hampshire.
During the 1970s he served on the Goffstown Budget Committee. He also helped to organize the Goffstown Taxpayers Association.
John is survived by his four children. He is predeceased by his wife, Mary, his parents, his brothers, Harold, James, George, and Roger, and his sisters Evelyn and Catherine.
Interment at Westlawn Cemetery, Goffstown.
