RITES FOR DR. EISELINE
Shortsville, Dec. 28-Funeral sevices for Dr. Daniel A. Eiseline will be held in the Presbyterian Church here at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow. Dr. Eiseline, veteran physician, public servant and outstanding citizen, died late Thursday at Clifton Springs Sanitarium.
Dr. Eiseline was one of the best known physicians in Ontario County where he practiced medicine for over 50 years.
Born in Canadaigua, June 10, 1868, a son of John and Elizabeth S. Eiseline, he received his early education in the Canandaigua School and Academy, and his medical degree from the University of Buffalo Medical School. He took a post graduate degree from Philadelphia Polyclinic and College for Graduates in Medicine.
HORSE AND BUGGY DAYS
Dr. Eiseline began the practice of medicine at Shortville, July 1, 1896. He went through all the hardships of a county physician in the "horse and buggy" days half a centruy ago. Even after he had purchased an automobile in 1903, travel was still difficult over country roads.
Dr. Eiseline, as a health officer, served his community long and faithfully. He was for seven years a member of the Shortville Board of Education, resigning in 1916 to become school physician. He also served as school physician of Manchester High School. He was health officer of the village of Shortsville from Decemter 1896 and of Manchester village from November 26,1920, He gave many years of service to the town of Manchester as health officer, resigning last November on account of his health.
He was coroner of Ontario County for 20 years. As surgeon for the Lehigh Valley R.R. for 31 years, Dr.Eiseline had a wide acquaintance among the railroad men of this area.
Dr. Eiseline served during World War I at Plattsburg Barracks, and at Camp A. A. Humphreys, U. S. Army Engineers, Virginia, where he was appointed camp sanitary inspector.
During his Army career in World War I, Dr. Eiseline attained the rank of major. At the time of his death, he was a Lt. Col. in the reserve corps.
ACTIVE IN LEGION
At the close of the war he was instrumental in organizing Turner-Schrader Post No.84 of the American Legion, one of the earliest units in the state. Besides the Legion post at Shortsville, Dr. Eiseline was an Associate of U.S. Military Surgeons and member of the U.S. Military Order of the World Wars, American Medical Association, Ney York State Medical Society, Ontario County Medical Society and Canandaigua Medical Society. He belonged also to the Canadaigua Sportsmen's Club.
Dr. Eisiline served as chairman of the Ontario County committee for enrollment of candidates, Citizens Military Training Camps from 1920 to 1941. He was Deputy Director of Ontario County Civilian Defense from May 22,1942 to August 29, 1945. He was instrumental in organizing the Woman's Auxillary, acting as County Adjutant.
A member of Canadaigua Lodge No.294, F.& A.M. Dr. Eiseline was affiliated with several Masonic lodges. He was a member of Rochestor Consistory, Zenobia Commandery, No. 41, K.T. Excelsior Chapter, No. 154. R.A.M. Damascus Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S. Palmyra Council, No.26 R & A.M.
SERVED 48 YEARS
Dr. Eiseline was elected secretary and treasurer of the Ontario Community Medical Society on July 12, 1898, an office which he has continued to hold for 48 years with honor to himself and his medical associates.
On October 3 of this year, Dr. Eiseline was one of two guest of honor at a dinner meeting of the Ontario County Medical Society, at the Clifton Springs Sanitarium, commemorating 50 years of medical practice in this county.
Dr. Eiseline had a great many friends among the medical fraternity among them "Old Doc Brady", famous newspaper columnist who sent from his distant home in California a long telegram of congratulation on the occasion of Dr. Eiseline's anniversary.
On July 15, 1901 Dr. Eiseline married Mabel E. Brown of Shortsville. She survives him as does a sister, Elizabeth Eiseline of Canadaigua.
Other survivors are Mrs. Herbert Gibson, Canadaigua, a niece; two nephews, Fred D. Eiseline, Rochester and Robert L. Eiseline, Gowanda.
Funeral rites for Dr. Eiseline will be conducted by the Masons and members of the American Legion, assisted by Rev. John Wriggins. pastor of the Presbyterian Church.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Canandaigua.
