- He was a head sawyer and ran the mill for David Railback for 26 years. In 1874, he lost a hand in a sawmill accident.
Military:
- Enlisted Co. D, 73rd Indiana Volunteer Regiment at Argos, Marshall Co., Indiana. Participated in battles of Stone River, Perryville & member of Col Straight's command raid into Georgia. Captured near Rome and held prisoner of war for 16 days. Paroled and returned to Indianapolis. Discharged in Nashville, Tennessee.
