WELL KNOWN LOCAL RESIDENT DIES SUNDAY
Services Tuesday for Ida Melvin Salyer
Mrs. Ida Melvin Salyer, 83, well known local resident died Sunday morning, March 13 1960, in a local hospital, after an illness of six months. The daughter of the late George and Hunn Mahan Stafford, she was born in this county April 22 1875, and had been a lifelong resident. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. Her first marriage was to John Melvin, who preceded her in death. She was later married to Green Salyer who also preceded her in death. Surviving are six sons, Willie, George, Ralph, Roy, Clarence, and Jimmy Melvin, all of this city; two daughters, Mrs. Addie Price, of this city; Mrs. Edgar W. VanHoose, Louisa; three brothers, Carl Stafford, of this city; Bill Stafford, Cynthiana; O. Ballard Stafford, Mt.Sterling,Ky. Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday from the First Baptist Church with Rev. M.R.Thomason, pastor, and Rev. Sam Sloan, former pastor, officiating. Music was by the Tom's Creek Singers. Grandsons acted as pallbearers, and the burial was in the Mayo Cemetery.
