  Belleville (KS) Telescope - 30 Aug 1923 Samuel David Stafford Samuel David Stafford was born in Potter County, Indiana, January 18, 1856. Whe ten years old he moved to Minnesota with his parents, near St. Paul, where a home was bought and where the family lived for a year. Upon the death of the elder Stafford the mother took her children, consisting of six boys and two girls and moved back to the old home in Indiana. Later the family moved to Kansas and in 1879 homesteaded in Washington township, this county. When twenty-one years of age Samuel D. Stafford homesteaded in Liberty township where he and his family lived for forty odd years. He was married to Rosella Morehead on December 19th, 1878 and to this union nine children were born. Mr. Stafford was converted at a revival meeting held at the Dry Lake school house by Brother Henry Williams in 1890 and shortly thereafter joined the Methodist church in which he has been an active member for the past thirty-three years. He served as class leader and superintendent of his Sunday School many terms and always took an active part in church work. Mr. Stafford was successful as a farmer and stock raiser, he always enjoyed good health and was an excellent neighbor and a good father and husband to his family. A little over a year ago he took throat affliction which caused him to loose his voice. He consulted Mayo Brothers at Rochester, Monnesota, and several other specialists and all pronounced his trouble cancer of the voice box. He was a patient sufferer and faithful to the end. Death came to him on Wednesday evening, August 15th. Funeral services were conducted from the Methodist church on Friday afternoon by Rev. Rath of Agenda, with burial in the Washington cemetery.
