  I am a direct descendant of John Wesley Stafford who married Margaret E Miller through their daughter Dora and her daughter Marageret my maternal grandmother. Let me know if you would like that line's detail I am happy to share it with you. In 1860 Census you will find John W Stafford age 4,living in the household of William & Catherine Deavers. John's birth Apr 10, 1856, Cains Creek, Preston County,was registered by Juliana Stafford listing Catherine Stafford as the mother and the father was left blank. John Wesley Stafford death certificate dated Sept 2, 1931, Tunnelton, Preston County,WV, also lists Catherine Stafford as his mother and father unknown. I can only assume that my great grandfather, John Wesley Stafford was born out-of-wedlock. In all of my research I have never been able to find any document listing who his father actually was. Census: 1880, Listed as John W. Stafford, an ore miner, with wife Margaret E., son Charles B. and daughters Mary E. and Ollie C. Parents born in VA.
