- Martha told the 1900 census she had given birth to one child, who was dead.
In 1900, Artie Henry was living with them, listed as a "boarder" age 9, b
ut in 1895, the Bellville Independent newspaper refers to Artie as their daughter. She was born Aug 1891 in Ohio; she was apparently an orphan taken in by Martha and Madison Gatton.
Another 1895 mention in the newspaper says her sister Mrs. Arhur Black spent Christmas with them.

BELLVILLE, MRS. MARTHA STAFFORD GATTON, 82, a lifelong resident of this vicinity, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. T.R. Heiser in Lexington last night after an illness of six months.
Mrs. Gatton, who was born near Little Washington, December 29, 1854, spent most of her life in Bellville.
In addition to her daughter, the survivors include a sister, Mrs. Ellen Miller of near Mansfield, a brother, William Stafford of Butler, and two grandchildren. She was a member of the Ebenezer Evangelical Church.
The body was removed to the Shaffer Funeral Home where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in charge of Rev. R.A. Krescher of Butler. Burial will be in Bellville Cemetery.
Martha Jane's only son, Benjamin A. "Benny" Gatton was killed in military service in Baracoa, Cuba, December 15, 1899.
